SPITI VALLEY Winter

SPITI VALLEY Winter 4.0

Spiti Valley derives its name from the word Spiti or Piti meaning the middle land between India and Tibet. Located in the Trans-Himalayan region of India, the valley is bordered by Tibet to the east, Ladakh to the north, Lahaul Valley to the west and southwest, Kullu to the south, and Kinnaur to the southeast. This enchanting valley is home to several ancient monasteries, picturesque villages, and a rich biodiversity reserve featuring rare and endangered flora and fauna. The entire valley boasts breathtaking natural sites, most of which remain unexplored and untouched.

Spiti Valley proudly holds several distinctive titles, including World’s Highest Village, World’s Highest Post Office, and India’s Coldest Desert Region. The local language is Bhoti, but residents do understand Hindi and English. Make sure to remember the magical word Julley, which means hello, thank you, please, and sorry – a versatile greeting that will come in handy during your visit!

Interestingly, the Geological Survey of India and the Geological Society of America consider Spiti one of the World’s most fossil-rich regions. You can discover fossils in villages like Langza and Komic. Our Trip Leader will share more fascinating facts about Spiti Valley during the journey.
